Johnson’s Nursery’s free service will recycle landscape plastics not accepted in their curbside recycling containers. Johnson’s Nursery, Inc. is located at W180 N6275 Marcy Road in Menomonee Falls.
“Landscaping plastics should stay out of curbside recycling bins so they do not end up in a landfill,” said Analiese Smith, Recycling & Solid Waste Supervisor for Waukesha County. “The cooperative program between Johnson’s Nursery and Waukesha County Parks and Land Use ensures that these materials are properly recycled. The used pots will be reprocessed to make new landscape plastics.”
The used plastic growing pots, plant trays, and plant containers must be free of plant debris, tags, and metals, and be sorted by plastic type. Residents may drop off containers year-round during Johnson’s Nursery’s business hours. Those with bulk quantities, such as businesses, are required to pre-sort, palletize, and call ahead to schedule a drop-off. Visit the retail office upon arrival for direction to the drop off area.
Recycling plant containers diverts them from Southeastern Wisconsin landfills, keeps contaminated plastics out of the City of Milwaukee/Waukesha County Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), and closes the recycling loop. The used pots will be recycled and used to make new landscape plastics.
